To explore a range of key essentials for the developing trainer

Objectives

By the end of this one day event, learners will be able to:

Explain how and why organisations and individuals train and learn

Describe the practical ADDIE training cycle and how to apply it

Describe how to deal with public speaking nerves and build confidence and authority when delivering training, to any audience in person and online

Pre course preparation

All learners prepare their Elevator Pitch – their short answer to ‘who are you, what do you do – and what makes you great at it?’ – ready to stand up and speak.

The workshop

Welcome and introductions

The Elevator Pitch exercise – Introductions with personal reflection, group feedback and tutor guidance for further professional development

Nerves – Why we get nervous, what nerves do to us and how to build confidence, in person and online

How to make a great visual impression, in person and online – mastering posture and body language

How to speak so people want to listen to you in person and online – using your voice for personal and professional impact

Why organisations train – The reason | The drivers | The barriers to training

Why and how we learn – The conscious competence cycle | Experiential learning | See, hear, do | 70:20:10

Putting it all together – Practical group exercises

The ADDIE training cycle:

Analyse – Establishing stakeholder, audience and learning needs

Design – Setting aim, objectives and the high-level training agenda for sign off and the green light

Develop – Gathering content | Session structure | Writing and PowerPoint tips

Implement – Facilitation skills toolkit | Question and answer techniques | Dealing with difficult situations

Evaluate – Kirkpatrick’s four levels of evaluation: Reaction / Learning / Behaviour / Results and RoI

Summary, call to action, learner undertakings, commitment and further development
